19 Mar / Favorite Books

Before I forget, each Monday when I write my blog, I’ll also include recommendations on books, music and movies. Sometimes they’ll be writing-centric, other times, simply good for your soul. Check out the book I’ve been touting for some time now – Law of Attraction.

I’m going in for reading number two of Ask & It is Given. This book goes more in-depth on using the emotional guidance system. Helped me to get out of a bad mood earlier today. This stuff works!

Let me know how these books are changing your life!

19 Mar / New Office!

I’ve moved! And I am happy to report that it was the most effortless, wonderful move of my life. I now have my own writing studio, complete with Buddha, plants, loads of books and a drafting table (so I can stand and write, instead of sitting all day!).

I’m in heaven. Still need to vacuum and then I’ll post pictures of my adorable little space.

Until then, picture me in a lovely brick and sage (with purple carpet – my fave!) studio, hammering out some of the greatest journalism of all time. 🙂

Even better – I’m now in NW Portland – which means coffee shops with wi-fi, long walks and the bustle of garbage trucks (more on my hatred for Waste Mgmt later) all around.

Happy Monday!

I’ve never had a birthday cake. Ever. No candles, singing or a moist, rich, decadent cake to celebrate with. Until now.

Piece of Cake Bakery in Portland is changing all of that.

That’s right – this year (Friday to be exact) I will be eating cake.
And not just any cake, a gluten-free, DAIRY-FREE chocolate peanut butter (my absolute favorite in the whole wide world) cake.

My life just got a 1000 times better.
Look for my report next Monday on how fabulous the cake was…

Know of another gluten-free bakery that makes you jump for joy? Leave a comment and tell us about it!

12 Mar / Signs of Land

One of my teachers and current partner on the “Letting Go” book, Brooke Emery, introduced me to an amazing concept. It’s called “Signs of Land.”

And its based on the Strategic Attraction Process that Brooke teaches.

The methodology is this – instead of racing all over the place trying to capture our perfect customers, we can be like lighthouses. We do this by staying in one spot while emitting positive, abundant energy. This will attract our perfect customers to us. I LOVE this concept.

It has also resonated with my manifestation group. SO…every Friday we email one another what Brooke calls our “Signs of Land” – signs that what we want to attract is on its way. Some examples: attracting new customers, receiving a huge tip, connecting with our significant other on an important issue, primo parking spaces and freebies.

I truly look forward to receiving the Signs of Land emails as much as I do writing my own signs. It helps me to appreciate and be joyful about all that I attracted into my life for the week. And the victories/signs of land from my co-horts inspires me to know that everything we all want is on its way!

Want to start your own manifestation group? Do it! Feel free to email me about how or contact Brooke. Her class is what got me going. She’s amazing!

12 Mar / Wheat-Free Pizza

I’ve started a Wheat-Free Warriors Google Group. Check it out and join. Let us know about products, restaurants and recipes that you love. It’s a great way to support one another in the wheat-free lifestyle. And as a dairy-free and no processed sugar girl, I’ll be adding product/recipe/restaurant recommendations for those too.

Now…onto the wheat-free pizza.
I prefer Amy’s Rice crust, but when I was at Whole Foods, I spied Nature’s Hilights Brown Rice crust with 2 crusts, for the price of 1 Amy’s rice crust. So, I had to try it.

Here’s the deal – it can be a little chewy and its definitely thin. Be sure to bake it directly on the oven rack (my mistake) and don’t try adding olive oil, I found it only made the crust more chewy, as opposed to crispy. Try these yummy toppings and you won’t even CARE what the crust tastes like:

1/4 c cherry tomatoes, grilled or pan-roasted
1/4 c artichoke hearts, drained and grilled/pan-roasted with tomatoes
season tomatoes and artichokes generously with lemon pepper, garlic and our fave Trader Joe’s 21 Seasoning Salute
2 organic chicken breasts, grilled and chopped
1/2 c Trader Joe’s (it’s 2 blocks from my place!) soy mozzarella cheese, grated
1/4 c Trader Giotto’s Recipe 99 Traditional Marinara Sauce

Preheat oven to 450
After baking the crust for 5 minutes, spread marinara sauce, coating evenly
Sprinkle almost all of the cheese onto crust
Place chicken on crust
Add artichoke hearts and tomatoes
Sprinkle remaining cheese on top
Turn heat to 425, bake 10 minutes

Voila!
It is delicious.

I was less than thrilled when my dad proposed that we go to the Old Spaghetti Factory for dinner last night. Great, Italian food. I can’t eat it, so I knew I was looking at a salad.

Luckily, my boyfriend 1) can read 2) is always looking for food that fits my eating requirements. He discovered that OSF offers gluten-free pasta. I could not have been more thrilled.

Just tell them no cheese on the pasta. I didn’t and had to scrape it off. Yuck.

More on restaurants that serve the gluten-free community.
And no, I’m not a big fan of chain restaurants, but I LOVE restaurants that take care of my dietary needs.

When I first wrote about The Secret, only a few people seemed to know about it. Since it hit Oprah on Feb. 9th and then again on Feb. 16th – it seems the whole world knows about it. Recent articles in the New York Times and Today Show segments (all of which I’ve read/seen) have spurred on more buzz.

And in the midst of all of that, my own manifestations have been, well, manifesting. Two years ago I created a vision board for my future. I was starting over after an unpleasant divorce (oxymoron – what divorce is pleasant?!) and wanted to create the life of my dreams. No more settling for anything less.

It was on my recent vacation that I realized that I had manifested almost EVERY item on the vision board. My Kitchen-Aid, laptop, fabulous boyfriend, furniture, and even my vacation. In fact, after downloading our pictures from Kauai, I uncovered the EXACT SAME picture on my vision board!!! (That’s it, up at the top of the blog.)

I am not kidding here – this is for real.

Watch The Secret.
Think, feel and act on what you want to in your life.
Create a vision board and look at it every day.
Before you know it, all of your dreams will be coming true.

I’ve created a new vision board – one with my trip to Paris, my red VW cabriolet, condo on the Oregon Coast, and my books on the New York Times bestseller list.

It’s on its way…

Vacation is a lovely, lovely thing. I read Hemingway, wrote lists of article ideas, and more importantly – snorkeled, attended my first luau, slept in, ate incredible food, went on long hikes, saw all the sights on Po’ipu Beach and finally spent some much needed doing nothing time. By far – my best vacation yet. I resolve to take one every three months in honor of our European neighbors. Stay tuned for more on that in the future…

Most of all, I was inspired. I wrote in my journal. I wrote poetry. I pondered the next steps to take in my career. Which is why downtime is so essential to the writing life. Time away from email and computers.

Now back a full week, I long for 80 degree weather and palm trees. But I’m also not answering work emails on the weekends and I’m taking more time for myself in the evenings.

I encourage you to do the same. Enjoy your life. Because it’s magnificent!
